They
couldn’t break his spirit… Bullied
at school and abused at home, Billy, a Yorkshire
school boy is neglected and misunderstood.
Failed by society and detached from the
world around him Billy finds solace in the
unlikely source of a chick kestrel, Kes.
Nurturing Kes provides an escape from the
mundane reality of life and allows Billy
to discover his true identity. As the relationship
grows so does Billy’s spirit and he
soon uncovers a whole new world; a peace
and purpose to life which others around
him cannot begin to understand. But will
his happiness last? Kes is a sensitive,
stunning and moving adaptation of a modern
classic. «

In
a small town in Pakistan’s
fertile Punjab region stands The
House of Bilquis Bibi. Inside, a
family mourns. With
her husband gone, Bilquis must uphold
her family’s honour at all
costs – the fates of five
unmarried daughters lie in her hands.
Her solution: to marry off eldest
girl Abida to their cousin Pappo,
who is visiting Pakistan from America.
Bilquis turns a blind eye to the
illicit nightly visits Pappo pays
to his fiancée’s balcony.
But as she slowly realises that
more than one daughter is staying
awake for him, the temperature in
the house rises and a tragedy unfolds.
As it celebrates its 21st year,
Tamasha teams up with Harrogate
Theatre to present amodern interpretation
of Federico García Lorca’s
1936masterpiece, The House of Bernarda
Alba. Set in present day Jhang –
a town steeped in the tragedy and
romance of the Heer Ranjha legend
– Sudha Bhuchar’s poetic
adaptation tells a personal, yet
subtly political story of small
lives with global ties.

Once
more with venom. Creaky
and cranky ex-Vaudeville stars Lewis
and Clark are teaming up for a television
comedy special. The problem is they
haven’t seen each other in
over a decade. After 43 years working
side-by-side in one of entertainment’s
best loved comedy double acts their
cantankerous and stubborn personalities
lead to a bitter break up and many
long-lasting grudges. As the obstinate
duo is reunited for one final performance
chaos ensues as the pair refuse
to be in the same room. Full of
zippy one liners The Sunshine Boys
makes for a deliriously funny evening
of entertainment. Originally produced
on Broadway in 1972 The Sunshine
Boys was later adapted for both
television and film.

An outrageous homage to musical
icon Doris Day, featuring a selection
of the diva of the duster’s
greatest hits like you’ve
never heard them before. Desperate
to be Doris tells the story of Dean,
who works as a Buyer for a Mail
Order nightwear firm called The
Pyjama Game. At home he is a legend
in his own living room and sings
like Doris Day but will he dare
to share his Calamity Jane with
an unsuspecting world? When his
local operatic society Out of My
Range, decides to stage the hit
musical, Dean is suddenly thrown
in the limelight. For this musical
extravaganza Lip Service duo Maggie
Fox and Sue Ryding have enlisted
the services of Darren Southworth,
fresh from the West End hit Spamalot,
who will become Doris for the Day!
Plus, as all good musicals traditionally
need casts of thousands, our leading
ladies will be backed by a flamboyant
Oldham community chorus specially
recruited for this production and
directed by our very own Peter Wakefield.

Davies,
an elderly drifter, is given shelter
by the kindly but vulnerable Aston.
He quickly makes himself at home
in the squalid, junk-filled attic,
but an uneasy peace is fractured
by the arrival of Mick, Aston’s
quick-witted, streetwise younger
brother. As the shadows lengthen
and the three men reveal more about
the past and themselves, a battle
of wits begins that will have irrevocable
consequences for them all. A landmark
of twentieth century theatre, The
Caretaker was first performed at
The Arts Theatre, London in 1960.
Fifty years on, Pinter’s compelling
study of loneliness and power games
still has the capacity to amuse,
to shock and to fascinate. Playwright,
director, actor, poet and political
activist, Harold Pinter was born
on 10 October 1930 in East London.
He wrote twenty-nine plays including
The Birthday Party, Old Times, The
Homecoming and Betrayal. In 2005,
he was awarded the Nobel Prize for
Literature. He died on Christmas
Eve 2008. London Classic Theatre
first produced The Caretaker in
2004. The tour was both a critical
and commercial success and this
revivalwill be the centerpiece of
their tenth anniversary year.

Summer
1936. A cottage in the remote Irish
village of Ballybeg, the five Mundy
sisters live a simple life in the
shadow of the hills of Donegal with
their recently returned brother
Jack, a missionary priest, seven
year old Michael and a wireless
set called ‘Machoney’.
Years
later the grown up Michael looks
back at that fateful summer when
the knockings of change finally
caught up the Mundy family. We see
the sisters laugh, cry and dance
in their boots in the foothills
of Ballybeg, fighting the forces
of change in the only way they can
as the dusk sets on the life they
know. The play paints a vivid and
life affirming portrait of these
brave women following their loss
of love and opportunity played out
against the echoes of the twentieth
century with a dark humour, raw
energy and tenderness. Brian Friel
is Ireland’s most prolific
and distinguished living playwright,
his plays include Aristocrats, Molly
Sweeney, Philadelphia Here I Come,
Faith Healer, The Home Place and
Translations. Premiered in 1990,
Dancing At Lughnasa has previously
been produced in the West End and
on Broadway, winning a Lawrence
Olivier Award and three Tony Awards,
it has also been made into an award
winning film starring Meryl Streep
and Michael Gambon. «
