After
two sold-out Hobopop shows at Contact,
the collective and label presents
two American songwriters, Kreg Viesselman
(Incisive and dazzling - Maverick)
and James Apollo (Beautiful and
breathtaking in equal measure -
The Evening Telegraph), each touring
material from their new releases.
This is a one-off joint show which
will feature full sets from each
act, showcasing their own brands
of road-beaten Americana that has
won them much critical acclaim.
James Apollo & Kreg Viesselman
are no strangers to wanderlust and
singing about belonging on the road.
They both have opted for career
paths that don’t shy away
from a hard life of moving and moving
on. This one-off date puts them
together for the first time, swapping
songs and ideas about what it is
to be the musical hobos they have
come to embody, on both sides of
the atlantic. Apollo’s story
is one characterised by movement
and peppered with life-changing
events. His move from rural Akansas
to New York, via a boat off the
coast of San Fransisco ended in
a horrific road accident which left
him in a cast from the waist down,
an experience which he describes
as a ‘wake-up call’
and from which his acclaimed album
‘Hide Your Heart in a Hive’
emerged. This was also the point
at which Apollo began to recieve
attention from the press in this
country, with glowing reviews in
the Scotsman, Metro, Sunday Express,
Relix, Maverick and others. HIs
last E.P. 'Angels We Have Grown
Apart', was released in the UK in
2009. Kreg Viesselman is a songwriter
of startling honesty and authenticity,
making a welcome return to Manchester
after his success at the second
Hobopop party in 2009. HIs last
album ‘The Pull’ spent
several weeks at number 1 in the
Euro-Americana chart, ahead of Eric
Clapton, JJ Cale and Tom Waits.
His brand of exceptional songwriting
and distinctive graveled voice have
earned him a solid reputation in
the USA and across Europe, landing
him spots such as opening for Willie
Nelson at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.
Now living in Norway, Viesselman
will be touring his brand new release,
'If You Lose Your Light'.

It
Hasn't Happened Yet follows the
journey of up-and-coming comedian
Alex Saunders as she navigates her
way through the minefields of disability
and comedy, with wheelchair and
alter-ego in tow. Following tours
in Melbourne and the UK, disabled
comedian Liz Carr presents her critically
acclaimed show that Time Out calls:
"Supremely funny, twisted and
edgy... A darkly comic mix of theatre
and stand-up". Plunging chair-first
into territory where few dare to
go, Carr challenges conventional
perceptions about comedy, ambition,
insecurity, fame and even fish!
Written and performed by Liz Carr
and directed by Christine Bruno
and Huw Thomas. «

Insanity
Isn’t is the story of Acey
Sickly. While trying to sleep through
the American dream Acey wakes to
an American nightmare; he finds
himself plagued with financial burdens,
media propaganda, religious beliefs,
keeping up with the Jones’,
his 9 lives to 5 and apocalyptic
prophecies. B-Boy movements, rhyme,
beatbox and live music weave together
his journey back to insane sanity.
Written and performed by Rudi Goblen.
