Prompt
start. A genuine one-of-a-kind performer,
Antony Hegarty shot to fame in 2005,
when I Am A Bird Now beat a host of
big names to win the prestigious Mercury
Music Prize. Since then, the Chichester-born,
New York-based singer with the extraordinary
voice has collaborated with everyone
from Lou Reed to Manhattan dance collective
Hercules & Love Affair, before
returning this year under his own
name with The Crying Light, a breathtaking
record about love, loss and the environment.
Exclusively for the Festival, Antony
is returning to his homeland for a
pair of special concerts. The singer
will be joined by the 36-piece Manchester
Camerata, performing new arrangements
by New York composer Nico Muhly of
songs from across his career and beyond.
And it will all take place in the
beautiful Manchester Opera House,
transformed for the evening by acclaimed
lighting designer Paul Normandale.
Book early or miss out on an unforgettable
night. Duration 110 mins including
one interval.

Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song? Sing-a-Long-a Annie continues the tradition of Irresistible Interactive Fun with a screening (with subtitles so everyone can join in) of the 1982 hit film starring Albert Finney, Tim Curry, Carol Burnett, a sweet little girl (in fact a whole orphanage-full) and a cute doggy. Add to that a fabulous score of great songs ("It's a Hard Knock Life", "Let's Go To The Movies", "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile", "Easy Street" and of course "Tomorrow"), and the chance to wear a bald pate (Daddy Warbucks), an ill-fitting ginger wig (Annie) or The Biggest Smile in town (if you want to be fully-dressed) and you have a guaranteed great night out. Expect all the Sing-a-long-a regulars - free goody bag, magic moments, fancy dress competition and the chance to cheer, boo and hiss to your heart's content. And, if you can't get your costume together, remember, it's what you wear from ear to ear and not from head to toe that maaaatters. Fancy dress - It’s not compulsory to dress up but many people do and it really adds to the fun. Dip into the wardrobe of your imagination and surprise us with your creation. The show lasts 2 hours 30 mins. «

Sing-a-long-a Joseph takes the multi-million pound film of the original stage show and gives it the inimitable Sing-a-long-a treatment. Your host for the evening will lead you through a vocal warm-up, take you through your free ‘magic moments’ pack and suggest some fun actions and heckles for you to join in with. Then, as always, YOU are the stars of the show, as you sing your hearts out to the on-screen lyrics. The show lasts 2 hours 30 mins. «

Michael Flatley, creator and director of this award-winning international dance phenomenon, proved his vision that hearts and minds, united through music and dance, cross all traditional boundaries. His Lord of the Dance continues to shatter box office records all over the world, leaving audiences breathless and clamoring for more. Described by the Los Angeles Times as a "show piece extravaganza," Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance is a magical adventure of sight and sound that transports its audience to a mythical time and place, lifting the spirits and capturing the hearts of all who experience it. From the moment the lights go down to the last encore, audiences are spellbound by a masterfully orchestrated combination of precision dancing, state of the art lighting and pyrotechnics. The musical score leaves no soul untouched. Based on Irish folklore, this classic tale of Good vs. Evil, expressed through the universal language of dance, has thrilled audiences worldwide and catapulted Irish dance to a new dimension and unprecedented worldwide acclaim. As the story unfolds, the Little Spirit travels through time to help the Lord of the Dance protect his people from the challenge of Don Dorcha, the Dark Lord. As this evil dark power challenges the hero, the incredible adventure continues, drawing its audience into a mythical universe of love, danger, and desire. «

Gilbert O'Sullivan, is an Irish singer-songwriter,
best known for his early 1970s hits
Alone Again (Naturally), Clair and
Get Down. His music has sound tracked
films and television shows from Stuart
Little 2, The Simpsons to The Virgin
Suicides and Anita & Me, and his
songs have been covered by artists
as diverse as Andy Williams, Nina
Simone, Shirley Bassey, Bobby Darin,
Sarah Vaughan and Donny Osmond. 2007
saw him return with a new album. Recorded
largely in his home studio in Jersey,
A Scruff At Heart (what he considers
himself) is a radical departure from
his most recent band albums. This
is simply the sound of O'Sullivan,
his piano loud with live vocals and
his extraordinary songs - bolstered
only by the striking inclusion of
strings and woodwind. The lyrics too
are classic O'Sullivan, as comfortable
tackling issues such as war and school
bullying as the condition of the human
heart coupled with a wry sense of
humour. «

In this, the 25th Anniversary of the year Billy's death, Fury's Tornados remember a very special man. The musical legacy and image of Billy Fury, who many believe to have been the UK’s finest solo male performer of his era, taken together with the muscial best of some of his contempories and rivals, surely gives a firm lie to the widely held, but quite mistaken belief, that between the demise of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the advent of the ‘Rock Music’ of the mid-Beatles period there was nothing. «
