Taking
place at the Garrick Theatre. U2
are one of the biggest bands in the world
today, thrilling audiences and selling outconcerts
across the globe. By their popularity they
have spawned a number of tribute acts. Based
in Blackpool U-ZU are the North West of
England's leading U2 tribute act. So what
makes U-ZU almost like the real thing? They
produce an accurate reflection of a U2 gig.
Having studied them on tour and meticulously
analyzing and recreating highlights of the
bands history, from the early 80s classics
of New Years Day and I Will Follow taking
things up to date with Beautiful Day, Vertigo,
One and City of Blinding Lights. However,
this is not just a covers band playing U2
numbers, the songs have been carefully crafted
and adapted together with choreography to
provide an authentic U2 live arrangement
and feel which provides the illusion of
the real thing. U-ZU are made up of an accomplished
line-up of 5 professional musicians with
a combined musical background of over 100
years, along with their own sound and lighting
engineer. U2 gigs sell out within hours,
U-ZU are a way to access the music and stage
show of a real U2 gig.

Taking
place at the Garrick Theatre. The
band was formed in the summer of 2005 by
guitarists Andy Baker and Chris Clowsley
as a result of their desire to not only
play but perform the music of Pink Floyd
with the same sense of adventure and experimentalism
that made the band so unique in the Sixties
and Seventies. From the outset their concept
has been to capture both the spirit and
the tonality of the music without being
afraid to add to or adapt the originals
to provide that genuine ‘live’
feel. Andy and Chris have over sixty years
of playing experience between them and grew
up to the sounds of Gilmour bending guitar
notes to perfection and spending hours working
out just how you get ‘that’
sound. They are joined by Jim Cooper, a
fantastic young musician who can find his
way around the five-string and fretless
bass with the same sense of space and timing
as Waters, Andy Dyehouse who has the ability
to nail the right keyboard sound and also
blows a mean sax and the powerhouse that
is Stevie G on percussion. Stevie has been
on the rock circuit for longer than he cares
to admit to but is relishing the new challenge
that Mason’s unique and quirky drum
style is presenting.

Sergio
Leone's monumental epic 'Once Upon A Time
In The West' ranks among the five or six
all-time Western masterpieces. The picture
itself is as big as its Monument Valley
locations, as grand as its fine, distinguished
cast. Henry Fonda plays the blackest character
of his long career. He's Frank, the ruthless,
murderous psychopath who suffers conscience
pangs after annihilating an entire family.
Jason Robards is the half-breed falsely
accused of the terrible slaughter. Charles
Bronson plays the harmonica playing man
who remembers how his brother was savagely
tortured. Brilliantly directed by Leone
and accompanied by one of Ennio Morriconne's
greatest scores, this glorious picture helped
re-establish the Western's significance.
Watch out for that lengthy opening titles
sequence. Starring Henry Fonda, Claudia
Cardinale, Jason Robards and Charles Bronson.

Set
in Vienna at the turn of the century, an
era Ophüls loved and had used in La
Ronde and Liebelei. Joan Fontaine gives
a moving, heartfelt performance as Lisa
Berndl, a romantic young woman who falls
in love with the handsome concert pianist
Stephan Brandt (Louis Jourdan). After a
brief affair, which she takes for love,
not seeing that he is just a philanderer,
he leaves for a concert in Italy and never
returns to the now-pregnant Lisa. She bears
the child herself and later enters into
a stable marriage, although one lacking
the passion and love she still feels for
Stephan. Ten years later, when he returns
to Vienna, Lisa attempts, at the risk of
her marriage, to see if he loves, or even
remembers her. Fontaine and Jourdan perfectly
project the feelings of a woman in love
and a man too selfish to notice or care.

The official 25th anniversary production
of Ray Cooney’s hugely successful
comedy with Vicki Michelle
(‘Allo, ‘Allo). It seems that,
for some people, forty is a rather traumatic
age. For Linda Harper, it certainly appears
to be, as she starts worrying three years
before her fortieth birthday. She is dissatisfied
spiritually and physically with her seventeen-year
marriage to the slightly staid George. However
following a drunken night, during which
George recounts passionate stories involving
a flamenco dancer from the top of a grand
piano, he moves out. When he returns to
the family home a few weeks later to sort
out maintenance arrangements with the help
of neighbours Roger and Betty, he and Linda
discover that the flames of passion are
not quite dead, albeit in need of a little
fanning! Accompanied by the Central Band
of the Royal Air Force, Linda helps George
to put the ex back into sex. There
is a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday.
