Charlyn Marie "Chan" Marshall, better known as Cat Power, pursues the slinky Hi Records sound of the '70s - folk singers, blues singers, and everything in between -with a sensuous feel and beguiling rhythms such as Memphis horns, funky string arrangements and smooth background vocals.
Cover songs have always occupied a crucial place in the Marshall canon and while she frequently delights and surprises with the songs she chooses to cover, it's Marshall's total commitment to the performance - imbuing songs by the likes of Frank Ocean, Bob Seger, Lana Del Rey, Jackson Browne, Iggy Pop, The Pogues, Nick Cave and The Replacements and more with a creative singularity that rivals her original work - that make Cat Power covers so special.
