GHOST

GHOST

The Swedish masked soft metal titans led by the demonic anti-pope Papa Emeritus return to the stage.

GHOST have amassed arena-worthy followings and billions of streams all over the globe, thanks to their theatrical stage presence and penchant for occult themes.

The creation of lead vocalist and only constant member Tobias Forge, GHOST was formed in Linköping in 2006. Inspired by a love for heavy metal music and horror movie aesthetic, the band are known for drawing upon satanic and anti-religious symbolism, as well as an admirable and unwavering commitment to characterisation. Forge (previously anonymous until a 2017 legal dispute led to his unmasking) is known for appearing as various incarnations of a satanic pope-like figure, which evolve and weave a story with each album release. Meanwhile the rest of the band are anonymous and only known as the Nameless Ghouls.

Citing wide-ranging musical influences, from Blue Öyster Cult to ABBA, GHOST's own genre-blending sound is a symphonic take on metal, peppered with catchy choruses and eerie melodies. Their debut album Opus Eponymous (2010), featuring fan favourites ‘Ritual’ and ‘Elizabeth’, was a nostalgic nod to 70s hard-rock, with its chugging riffs and devil-worshipping lyrics. It preceded any live performance from the band, but was well received by critics.
