Rakish Newcastle post-punks Maximo Park are a hyper-tuneful indie-rock outfit in the vein of XTC, Gang of Four, and particularly modern peers The Futureheads. They turn out the sort of breathless, keyboard-drenched art-pop numbers that neither forsake their Englishness - frontman Paul Smith sings in his broad native Geordie accent- nor bow excessively to the past.

Their punchy single ''Our Velocity", with its 80s choc-a-block synths and driving harmonies reached the UK Top 10 in 2007 while their 2021 album "Nature Always Wins" was their second to reach no.2 in the charts.
