Pete Wylie & the Mighty Wah
Described as "like the Lightning Seeds crossed with Phil Spector and the Manic Street Preachers, with lavishes of grand guitars and swathes of strings", part time rock star, full time Liverpool legend, singer, musician, composer Pete Wylie began his career in 1977 and helped pioneer the eighties art-indie scene. He had a series of bands with fellow seminal scouse mavericks such as Ian McCulloch (Echo & The Bunnymen), Julian Cope (Teardrop Explodes), Pete Burns (Dead or Alve) and more.
In 1979, he formed Wah! (later to become The Mighty Wah! among various other names), and garnered critical acclaim throughout the 1980s for the singles The Story of the Blues" - which reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart - "Sinful!", "Come Back (The Story of the Reds)". "Hope (I Wish You'd Believe Me)", "Better Scream" and "Seven Minutes to Midnight". His 1998 track "Heart As Big As Liverpool" confirmed him as one of the finest songwriters of his generation and is popular within the city and especially with supporters of his beloved Liverpool Football Club.
