Quatuor Danel & Simon Grange
The leading French string quartet - who have been "Quartet in Residence" at the University of Manchester since 2005 - are joined by bassist Simon Grange for Darius Milhaud's String Quartet No. 2 (50 years since Milhaud’s death), Philip Grange's De Profundis for String Quartet and bass voice (World premiere), and Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 8
Three works concerning three different wars, including Philip Grange’s World Premiere, De Profundis. Inspired by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this work casts the bass as a journalist reporting from the musical depths on the evil mankind can enact.
