The post-Smiths guitar pop of The House of Love was popular for a short time in the late '80s and early '90s, as many college and alternative rock fans became converts to their mixture of shiny ringing guitars, pseudo-psychedelic melodies, and bursts of noise.
After being signed by Alan McGee, the London band were one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands to grace Creation Records back in the late 1980s. Their eponymous debut album was cited as one of the best albums of 1988 by music magazines and Indie fans alike, while its follow-up, in 1990, reached no.8 in the UK charts and spawned their ownly Top 20 hit, the indie classic "Shine On."
