The Residents
Formed in the early 1970s, Louisiana art rockers The Residents have now been charting a unique path through the musical landscape for half a century.
Best known for their avant-garde music and multimedia works, to commemorate their 50th Anniversary, the group revisit their "classic" early period.
The individual members have ostensibly attempted to work anonymously, preferring to have attention focused on their art. Much speculation and rumour has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, they appear silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tails—a costume now recognized as their signature iconography.
A year before his death in 2018, Hardy Fox revealed that he was the co-founder of the band and their primary composer.
