The Man From Delmonte

The Man From Delmonte

After a 34 year hiatus, 1980s Manchester indie art pop favourites The Man from Delmonte return.

Between 1988 and 1991 they shone brightly creating some of the most memorable pop songs of the "Madchester" era.

Water in My Eyes, My Love is Like a Gift, Sun Serious, Like a Millionaire – classics that helped sell out venues like The Manchester International on a regular basis. They supported James, were managed for a time by author and screenwriter Jon Ronson and even boasted Inspiral Carpets and 808 State as show openers.

Classically trained, they took their name from a series of 1980s television advertisements for Del Monte fruit juices, featuring the "man from Del Monte". In these, the man would visit villages to sample their fruit juices, to see if they were good enough to be included in his company's drinks. The tagline, shouted jubilantly by a villager on approval was, "The man from Del Monte, he say 'Yes!'
